India is the 7th largest country in the world with a total area of about 32,87,267 square kilometers. From east to west India stretches around 2,933 km and north to south, it extends about 3,214 km.
The Tropic of Cancer (23°30′ N latitude) passes almost through the middle of the country, dividing it into tropical and subtropical regions. The southernmost point of mainland of India is Kanyakumari, while the southernmost point of the Indian sub-continent is Indira Point in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
